Who is Sutton Transport?

Sutton Transport was founded by Frank and Deb Sutton on November 19, 1979, as a cartage agent for Burlington Northern Air Freight, but after the deregulation of the trucking authority in 1980, they took the company on their own route and developed it into a private, family-owned business. 

They own a total of 137 trucks, 111 tractors, 230 trailers, and have a total of 400 people in their employ, out of which 140 are drivers. They operate near 400 pieces of equipment over a total of seven terminals and are known for providing great service and a good working environment.

Pick-Up and Delivery Driver

The main responsibility of the pick-up and delivery driver’s main job is to deliver goods to the customers. Each driver is assigned a particular route, and they make deliveries at the start of their shift and pick things up at the end of it. 

They use 48ft. to 53ft. dry van trailers, and are responsible for unloading the goods from the freight truck if the customer themselves can’t, and to get invoices signed at each stop that is made.

Forklift Operator/Dock Worker

The main job of the forklift operator is to load and unload the trailers at the docks, where most of their time will be spent on the actual forklift. This is done with a whole team of operators.

Drop and Hook Driver

The main job of line haul drivers is to move the freight from one terminal to another. They also man 48ft. to 53ft. dry van trailers.


Sutton Transport Pay Scale, Salary, and Benefits

Each of their jobs includes different offers such as yearly wage increases, new equipment, 401K, paid training, safety programs, job stability, etc. The benefits include things such as health saving accounts, accident insurance, paid holidays and vacations, five personal days upon being hired, safety bonuses, etc. 

The pay for each job is different, such as Line Haulers work 45-55 hours a week on average, with them getting paid by the mile, with $0.50 per mile, making a weekly average of $1250-1450. The delivery drivers have to work 45-55 hours per week and make $23 per hour. Forklift operators and dock workers get paid $16.50 per hour, as that is only available as a part-time job.

  • You have to be at least 21 years old.
  • Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) of class “A.”
  • Must have at least one year of tractor-trailer experience in the last five years.
  • Must have no more than two moving violations in the last three years.
  • Must have the ability to obtain or already be in possession of a Hazmat suit and a Tanker endorsement.

Sutton provides transportation of goods across all 50 states of the US, but there is some difference in duration, though. The states with overnight delivery are only Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, and some areas of Iowa.

After that, all the other states take anywhere from one to four days, with the western states like California, Arizona, etc. along with Southernmost and Eastern-most states such as Texas, Alabama, Maine, etc. having the longest duration of three to five days.
